The initial inspiration came from shadows cast on grass. Months later she devised a process which did not render the chosen object on the canvas as a flat image. The subject has been transformed into it's own representation with the canvas taking an interpretation by the artist. It is most effective when working with living things or objects that can be perishable such as fruits or people. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting that is extremely ephemeral its nature, can be seen. The only thing of her art to survive is the photo. Photography and painting techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a two-dimensional, flat space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The only areas of the photo such as the hair, or eyes, reveal the 3D dimension. Meade is also able to integrate her painted models within the 3D space that surrounds them. Their interaction and the created environment is possible. The lines between performance, photography, installation and painting is thus broken.
