Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was one of the first Roberts to settle in Atlanta. She inherited her father's interest in theatre from an early age. As in school at Emory University in 1952 he acted in productions on campus and elsewhere in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in a play with Betty Lou Bredemus. Eric Anthony was their first born. The couple was married in the year. Walter attended Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after he left the Airforce in 1957. In 1960, the family relocated to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou began producing a television show for children in Georgia, Decatur called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They funded the show their own. They also created an organization that lasted for six years called the Actors and Writers Workshop later the same year. In 1965, they welcomed two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
